Top 10 Taiwan Computer Case Makers to Take 60 Pct. of Market
|
October 2, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- The top 10 computer case makers in Taiwan
will hold 60 percent of the local market for those products by the end
of 1998.
|
The Information Industry's Market Intelligence Center (MIC) also predicted
that the top five firms will see their share move up to 40 percent from
the current 36.6 percent.
In 1996, 52.8 percent of the local computer case market was occupied
by the top 10 companies in the industry. Last year, this figure had
increased to 55.8 percent.
The MIC also foresees that the local sector will gradually shift its
operations to China, as labor in this region is much cheaper than in
Taiwan.
About 40-50 local computer case makers, including Hon Hai Precision Industry
Co., Ltd. and Enlight Corp., have already begun operating on the other
side of the Taiwan Strait.
MIC analysts group local computer case manufacturers into four categories.
The first category places its emphasis on middle- and high-end distributors
around the world, and sustains a high-quality, high-price image.
Such companies, one being Enlight, have been actively expanding capacity,
and are expected to begin large-scale original equipment manufacturing
(OEM) in the near future.
The second category, including Hon Hai, focuses only on orders from international
computer heavyweights.
Companies in the third group act more like "contracted processors," which
only receive orders from computer companies or other computer case companies
that are too busy to meet demand.
The fourth category targets the low-price computer case market, supplying
only limited models of products. The quality of such products is often
lower.
Such companies see lower profit margins, but since the prices of their
products are more compatible, monthly output on average hits at least
300,000 per company, according to MIC analysts.
