  • Compaq Computer, DEC Japan Announce Overall Product Plans
  • October 5, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Compaq Computer K.K. of Japan and Digital Equipment Corp. Japan revealed plans on the integration of products and services after their merger.
Product lines involving servers and workstations with the Alpha microprocessor will continue to be developed and supported by the new Compaq.

All products with Intel microprocessors will be integrated into Compaq's current product lines. Services, such as system integration, consulting and support, which are currently supported by DEC Japan, will continue within the same framework.

The new company will continue to offer high-quality products and services, said Makoto Baba, vice president of Compaq.

The following six points are the basic guidelines for the integration of the company's products and services.

    (1) Existing users of DEC Japan products will get guaranteed product adaptability and compatibility for future upgrades.

    (2) For migration and renewal of products, a transition period will be implemented so that both users and distributors can appraise products and services.

    (3) During the appraisal period, new products and existing products will cater to the convenience of business customers.

    (4) Add-ons and options for upgrading will be offered depending on the need, even after sales of some hardware products are discontinued.

    (5) Hardware products and software programs will have maintenance services and spare parts for at least five years after their sales are discontinued.

    (6) As concerns services and support, existing products and new products will have existing or better systems and menus.
