[Electronics Show '98] Toshiba, Rohm Exhibit Logic ICs with Embedded DRAMs
|
October 12, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Toshiba Corp. introduced its roadmap for
logic IC chips with embedded DRAMs at the Electronics
Show '98 in Osaka.
|
Development activities for embedded DRAM technology to install DRAMs
on logic IC chips are becoming brisk among Japan's semiconductor makers,
As for logic IC chips with embedded DRAMs, Toshiba will develop in 1999
an system IC, or system-on-a-chip, that includes its TX79 reduced-instruction
set computer (RISC) microprocessor based on the MIPS architecture. The
performance of the microprocessor is 400 million instructions per second
(MIPS).
For embedded flash memory, the company will develop a system chip that
combines its MIPS architecture RISC microprocessor TX19 with memory
in the first quarter of 1999. It will use a 0.4-micron process technology,
4Mb flash memory cores with a single power supply of 3.3V. The performance
of the microprocessor is 20MIPS.
Rohm Co. Ltd. showcased system chips that combined a ferroelectric memory
and a DRAM or a flash memory with logic ICs. As in the past, company
officials declined to provide details about ferroelectric memory products
such as the date to start selling them. The company is introducing Mitsubishi
Electric Corp.'s eRAM technology into its DRAMs.
