Online Companies in China to Reach Seven Million
|
October 13, 1998 (BEIJING) -- The number of online companies in China
is expected to grow from 1.17 million to more than seven million in
the next few years.

The Department of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises under China's Economic
and Trade Commission suggested that Chinese businesses should readily
accept, rather than treat electronic business as a new concept.
The major challenge for Chinese companies is how to gear their management
systems to computer and networking technology, said an official of the
Department of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises during a recent solutions
fair jointly organized by the Economic and Trade Commission and Intel
Corp. of the United States.
Wee Theng Tan, chief operations officer and managing director of Intel
(China), noted that the company will offer state-of-the-art networking
technology to fulfill the needs of Chinese businesses.
Wee predicted the sales volume for the global electronic business will
hit US$200 billion by the end of the century, and added that upgrading
information technology is not simply a luxury, but instead a demand
of business competition.
Jimmy Wang, president of Hong Kong-based China Infobank Ltd., said that
networking places small companies on the same footing with larger companies
in terms of the use of information resources.
The fair featured two seminars in which entrepreneurs and engineers introduced
their experiences in using information and networking technology.
Intel has sponsored seminars in a number of Chinese cities, including
Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
Various other multinational firms, including IBM Corp. and Microsoft
Corp., have also launched plans to expand cooperation with small businesses.
