Sichuan, China Reports US$357M Contracted Investments

October 13, 1998 (CHENGDU, China) -- Southwestern China's Sichuan Province
contracted foreign investments for the first half of this year of US$357
million, up 36.6 percent over the 1997 period.

The province signed contracts with investors from the United States,
France, Germany and Hong Kong in wide-ranging areas such as telecommunications,
energy, transportation and urban construction.
The province also plans to prioritize the industrialization of local
agriculture and the restructuring of local state-owned enterprises.
Sichuan listed 150 key projects for foreign investment during the first
half of the year and established a system for examining and approving
related projects.
