NTT Data Uses VISA, MasterCard E-Certificates for Internet Shopping
|
October 16, 1998 (TOKYO) -- NTT Data Corp. said it began offering an
official authorization in its transaction settlement for SET-compliant
services called "Internet Shopping Service" provided through its Credit
and Finance Information System (CAFIS) online credit system.
|
The authorization is in the form of electronic certificates issued by
VISA International Service Association and MasterCard International
Inc.
The certificates will allow shops that use VISA and MasterCard, card
companies tying up with the two groups and their associated merchants,
and general consumers to use Internet commerce over the CAFIS network.
The operation is in a pilot testing phase, but a general commercial service
is expected to begin in January 1999.
The authorization certificate will prevent credit card number leakage
and alteration. NTT Data so far has been using its own CAFIS Test Certificate.
NTT Data is able to issue the electronic certificate because (1) it could
obtain a Payment Gateway Certificate from VISA and MasterCard, and (2)
NTT Data is prepared to issue certificates to member merchants and cardholders.
The existing CAFIS Internet Shopping Service will continue as well.
Three card companies participate in the CAFIS Internet Shopping Service.
They are DC Card Co., Ltd., Credit Saison Co., Ltd. and Nippon Shinpan
Co., Ltd. Companies that will participate include UC Card Co., Ltd.,
Million Card Service Co., Ltd., Orient Corp. and NTT Lease Co., Ltd.
Detailed English information on the CAFIS Internet Shopping Service can
