|
October 19, 1998 (SEOUL) -- The 5th World Congress on Intelligent Transport
Systems (ITS) was held in Seoul, Korea Oct. 12-16.
|
The opening session and plenary session for invitational lectures were
held the first day. About 30 lecturers gave their lectures, each taking
about 5-10 minutes.
At a session called "Government and Industry Cooperation," Tsuneo Nakahara,
vice president of Japan's ITS promoting group Vehicle
Road and Traffic Intelligence Society (VERTIS) , cited Japan's Vehicle
Information and Communication System (VICS) and the ITS showcase at
the Nagano Olympics games as successful examples of ITS in Japan.
Chung Goo Lee, chief operating officer of Korea's Hyundai Motor Co.,
Ltd. said, "It is necessary for us to establish our 'ITS Korea,' a promotional
group which is on a par with America's ITS America, Europe's ERTICO
and Japan's VERTIS in order to promote ITS in Korea.
The World
Congress is the world's largest international congress on ITS. It
is held in turn every year in Asia, Europe and North America. This is
the second time it was held in Asia after Yokohama, Japan, in 1995.
