Toshiba Shows Car Navigation System Using Agent Technology
|
October 20, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Toshiba Corp. demonstrated its InfoMirror
agent system, which is to be used in information services for automobiles,
at a recent exhibition in Seoul.
|
The exhibition ran along with the 5th World Congress of the Intelligent
Transport System held Oct. 12-16 in Seoul,
This system can be connected to information service providers or the
Internet through a car navigation system or a computer installed in
the car.
InfoMirror employs agent software called Plangent. The driver operates
it by a voice recognition system. When the driver requests information,
InfoMirror accesses an information service provider to get the information.
If the provider doesn't have the information, InfoMirror automatically
selects the suitable home page from the Internet where such information
is located and displays it on the monitor of the car navigation system.
In the current services already started by car manufacturers or other
companies, drivers have to retrieve information by themselves from a
wide selection of home pages on the Internet.
Toshiba said it will sell the system around the spring of 1999 jointly
with an automobile maker.
