|
October 28, 1998 (TOKYO) -- The expansion of the LCD monitor market is
the focus of attention at the Liquid Crystal Display Seminar '98 held
concurrently with LCD/PDP International'98 from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30 at
the Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture.

The LCD industry is emphasizing the idea of "going beyond the notebook
PC" to reduce its reliance on the LCD market geared to notebooks, and
the industry is making efforts to cultivate new markets.
Presentations are being made on the various approaches for expanding
the thin-film transistor (TFT)-LCD monitor market as speakers make comparisons
between TFT-LCDs and CRTs by addressing their respective characteristics
and problems.
Also, lectures are focusing on image quality, which holds the key to
expanding overall demand. The presentations and lectures are evaluating
image quality of the existing TFT-LCD monitors and CRT monitors, and
will clarify the future role of TFT-LCD monitors.
Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. sponsors LCD/PDP
International. A broad range of exhibits are on display, encompassing
production equipment for LCD/PDP, parts, LCD/PDP panels, products that
use LCD/PDPs, and other items related to LCD/PDPs. This is the fifth
time that this exhibition is being held. The number of visitors to this
year's event is expected to be about the same as that of last year,
at about 28,000.
