Informix Japan to Set Up System Integration Unit
|
September 1, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Informix K.K. of Japan said it plans to
establish a system integration department aimed at the data warehouse
and electronic-commerce markets as early as the end of this year.
|
Its target is to develop "flagship" users who are likely to prove useful
for marketing activities in both markets. The measure is based on a
new business policy announced by Informix Software Inc. of the United
States.
Informix suffered a poor showing in fiscal 1997 (January through December)
but its business began to pick up in fiscal 1998. For three consecutive
quarters since January, the company's business gains have exceeded the
year-earlier levels.
"The U.S. head office decided to turn to a more aggressive business strategy
from a defensive one," according to Informix K.K. president Shoichi
Hori.
One of the measures is to advance into the system integration business
targeted at the data warehouse and electronic-commerce markets. By going
into the systems integration business and acquiring as users some of
the main companies likely to help in marketing activities, Informix
hopes to expand its sales of database products.
