Shanghai Reports 93 Percent Rise in Jan.-July PC Sales
|
September 11, 1998 (SHANGHAI, China) -- A total of 11,970 personal computers
were purchased in Shanghai in the January-July period, an increase of
93.3 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to a recent report.
|
The report notes that in July alone, 6,253 PCs were sold, or 3.3 times
the number sold in the same month of 1997.
Officials of the city's commercial commission said that individual households
are playing a more dominant role in PC purchases compared with corporate
and other institutional buyers.
To meet the strong demand for computers, the Xielian Computer Market,
which will be China's largest computer outlet, will open later in September.
