HP Japan Discloses Flaw in Japanese Palmtop PCs
|
September 22, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. said a flaw
was detected in some of the Japanese versions of the HP 620LX palmtop
personal computer released in May 1998.

HP Japan has published on the Web apologies, along with its solution,
in Japanese at (http://www.jpn.hp.com/GRP1/mobile/620/renraku/owabi.html).
According to HP Japan, the malfunction was caused by a flaw in the condenser.
The condenser tends to break down during the recharge process and, although
very rare, causes smoke emissions. The glitch was detected in a few
of the products shipped at a very early stage.
Nonflammable material used in the body is designed to prevent and contain
the spread of fire. Consequently, there is no need to be over concerned
with a possible fire and/or fire spread, the company said.
"However, if a smoke emission ever occurs with the HP 620LX users own,
we want users to kindly report to HP Japan by telephone. Products with
the defect will be exchanged with a new one," said HP Japan.
