Matsushita to Release DVD Car Navigation System

September 25, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Matsushita Communication Industrial Co.,
Ltd. announced a new car navigation device with a DVD video player.

The CN-DV2500D can play DVD videos, video CDs and music
CDs. The company said the company works well by playing video in the
back seat of a recreational vehicle and playing video and music outside.
Matsushita Communication claims this is the first product of its kind
with a DVD-ROM player with an MPEG2 decoder to be used in a car.
Also for the first time, it provides a voice control function for Matsushita's
car navigation device. When a user specifies a destination using an
attached microphone, a map around the destination is displayed. Selection
from the menu also can be done by voice input.
the displayed map is three-dimensional.
The CN-DV2500D car navigation device is priced at 260,000 yen (US$1,900).
The CN-DV2500VD combined with a 7-in. liquid-crystal display and a TV
tuner is 355,000 yen (US$2,600).
The company is targeting monthly production of 5,000 units of the former
and 10,000 of the latter. Both are to be released on Nov. 1.
