DIC to Set Up Consortium for Info Service Using Satellites
|
September 28, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Direct Internet Corp. (DIC) told Nikkei
Personal Computing that it will set up a consortium to promote information
services for individual customers utilizing a satellite as early as
October.
|
Members of the consortium are expected to include as many as 20 content
providers such as Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., which invested
in DIC, Sony Music affiliated companies, publishing companies and newspaper
firms.
DIC will conduct experiments and obtain necessary know-how through the
consortium for about three months. After that initial period, it will
start providing actual services. The services will be through a membership-based
system.
DIC's Internet access/data communications services via satellite will
be used for distributing information. The services will include data
downloads through a browser and push-type data distribution.
