  • China's New Mobile Phone Network in Trial Operation
  • June 18, 1998 (SHANGHAI, China) -- Shanghai Great Wall Network, the new code diversion multiple access (CDMA) mobile phone network in China, opened for trial operation.
The Shanghai network, which operates at a frequency of 800MHz, was jointly built by the Shanghai Posts and Telecommunications Bureau and the Nanjing Military Area Command.

It is expected to further enlarge the local mobile transmission capacity and improve the quality of telecommunications.

An exchange center and 67 base stations have been built, covering the whole metropolitan area.

CDMA, the most advanced telecommunications technology in the world, provides clearer transmission and better security.
