  • LG Semicon, Intel Said Negotiating Capital Ties
  • June 26, 1998 (TOKYO) -- LG Semicon Co., Ltd. and Intel Corp. reportedly are in final-stage negotiations for Intel to provide financing of US$1 billion to the Korean firm, Nikkei Microdevices learned from Korea semiconductor industry sources.
An LG Semicon public relations spokesman confirmed the company is holding negotiations with overseas semiconductor manufacturers for capital ties and joint investments, but could not comment on the names of potential partners not contents of the negotiations.

Korea's government has proposed that companies exchange their business units with others within each conglomerate to streamline business activities. However, LG appears to have declined that proposal, instead leaning toward targeting overseas capital ties to continue its semiconductor business, industry sources said.
