Compal Electronics Boosts Production of Monitors in China
|
October 28, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- Compal Electronics Inc., a Taiwan-based
electronics maker, announced that monthly production of 15-in. computer
monitors will likely reach 250,000 units at its China factories by December.
|
Compal executives said that although prices of computer monitors are
declining, the company has no intention of giving up its production
lines and marketing channels.
The company also is developing its notebook PC and telecommunications
operations, and has become a major original-equipment manufacturer for
Dell Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., NEC Corp. and Fujitsu Ltd.
New products, including a docking station for notebook PCs, are on the
drawing boards, and the company plans to make such devices at its new
plants in Kunshan, China.
Compal executives said that the company is attracted by the labor pool
and low production costs in China.
Because many of Taiwan's makers of electronics components have set up
plants in Kunshan, the company has no problem finding a steady supply
of components and parts to build products there.
The company employs 1,700 Chinese workers, and has 260 Taiwanese workers
stationed in Kunshan.
Its second plant will begin operations by December, and it will soon
start construction of its third plant there.
