[LCD/PDP International '98] Plasma Display Panels for HDTV Featured at Show
|
November 2, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Plasma display panel (PDP) modules suited
for high-definition television (HDTV) were exhibited at the "LCD/PDP
International '98" held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture
through Oct. 30.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. exhibited a
42-in. PDP module with a progressive format (see photo). The module
has 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, and its luminance is more than 450cd/m2
with a contrast ratio of 300:1.
Fujitsu Ltd. exhibited a 42-in. PDP suited for HDTV using a method called
Alternate Lighting of Surfaces (ALIS). It has a resolution of 1,024
x 1,024 pixels.
Hitachi Ltd. showcased a 42-in. PDP panel (1,024 x 1,024 pixels). Pioneer
Electronic Corp. exhibited a 50-in. extended graphics array (XGA) panel.
And NEC Corp. exhibited a 50-in. XGA wide panel with 1,365 x 768 pixels
slated to be produced in the spring of 1999. All of the panels are suited
for HDTV sets.
Sharp Corp. exhibited a 42-in. plasma-addressed liquid-crystal (PALC)
panel developed in cooperation with Sony Corp. and Royal Philips Electronics
NV of the Netherlands. But that panel does not comply with the HDTV
format.
