Samsung's Monitors Get Environment Certification from Sweden
|
November 5, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said Nov. 2
that it received the TCO99 certification, a Swedish environmental standard,
for its computer monitors.
|
The acronym TCO originated from a Swedish labor union and refers to a
global environmental regulation to keep radio waves at a specified level.
The TCO99 certification covers four areas, including engineering, ecology,
radio waves and energy. It is reported to be difficult for global companies
to pass all of the requirements.
"To receive the certification, we improved the brightness of our screens
by 30 percent and reinforced their ability to block harmful radio waves,"
said a Samsung official. He added that it was the first time in the
world for monitors to receive the TCO99 certification.
The company hopes to receive certification for 100 percent of its products
by the start of next year, up from about 80 percent now.
