Mac Distributor in Korea to Produce IBM Compatibles
|
November 16, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Elex Computer Inc., an Apple Computer Inc.
Macintosh distributor in Korea, said it will start production of IBM-compatible
PCs in 1999.
|
The company said it will build a plant with an annual production capacity
of 50,000 units to target the domestic PC market.
"Elex plans to release five of its own PC models with 333-400MHz Pentium
IIs at the end of November," a company official said.
As part of efforts to launch production, the company is under negotiations
with a U.S. investment firm to lure US$20 million, the official said.
The name of the investment venture, however, was not disclosed.
Elex expects the deal to be finalized within this month if everything
proceeds as planned, the official added.
The domestic computer maker said it will offer the new models for US$499
per unit.
