Chinese Companies to be Listed on NASDAQ
|
January 18, 1999 (BEIJING) -- The first group of Chinese companies will
be listed on NASDAQ, the second-biggest stock market in the United States.
|
This is according to Frank Zarb, the president of the U.S. National Association
of Securities Dealers and CEO of NASDAQ.
Three to six companies will be a good target, Zarb said, and if they
perform well and the results are good, then more will follow.
He added that securities dealers and NASDAQ have had discussions with
the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the country's securities
market watchdog, on personnel exchanges and professional training and
have agreed to launch a joint Web site soon.
NASDAQ lists some 6,000 corporations, including 500 from outside the
United States. The criterion for listing is simply "high quality," and
that could translate into strong leadership or products or services
with potential profitability, Zarb said.
