| China Seeks Accelerated Tech Transfer from Siemens

January 18, 1999 (BEIJING) -- Chinese President Jiang Zemin said he hoped
that Siemens AG of Germany would speed up technology transfers to China,
in his recent meeting with Heinrich Von Pierer, chairman and CEO of
Siemens.

Jiang expressed his appreciation for the company's efforts to promote
Sino-German ties as well as bilateral economic and technological cooperation.
The Chinese government seeks more fruitful cooperation in the coming
years, Jiang said.
Siemens plans to expand the areas of its cooperation with China and transfer
more technologies to the country. It will continue to localize technology
and train Chinese professionals, Pierer said.
Pierer also noted that the Chinese government has strongly supported
the company's business expansion in the country.
