CRT Share of Electronic Display Market to Fall, IDC Says
|
January 19, 1999 (TOKYO) -- IDC Japan Ltd. projects that the market share
of cathode ray tube (CRT) displays will decrease in the electronic display
market from 71.3 percent in 1998 to 59 percent in 2002.
|
Worldwide sales of electronic displays reached 5,192.7 billion yen (US$45.15
billion) in 1998, of which the share for CRTs was 3,699.1 billion yen
(US$32.8 billion), according to IDC.
However, IDC predicts that sales of CRT displays will register about
3,749.2 billion yen (US$33.2 billion) in 2002, although the total sales
of electronic displays will be 6,353.7 billion yen (US$56.3 billion).
The projections were made by taking into account that PC monitors and
TVs will be less expensive in the future and that flat-panel displays
will replace CRTs in many applications.
