  • Melco to Introduce Low-Priced TFT-LCD Monitor
  • January 20, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Melco Inc., Japan's leading PC peripherals maker, announced a low-priced, 17-in. thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display monitor.
    The new FTD-GT17-A is priced at less than 300,000 yen (US$2,610).

    It also announced a drastic price cut in the price of the FTD-XT15-A, a 15-in. TFT-LCD monitor, by 80,000 yen to 118,000 yen (US$1,030).

    The FTD-GT17-A displays 16,770,000 colors with a maximum 1,280 x 1,024 dots. It is designed not only to be used as a display device for personal computers, but also for workstations.

    The LCD panel measures about 43cm diagonally, equivalent to a 19-in. CRT. The pixel pitch of the LCD is 0.264mm. The viewing angles of both up/down and left/right are 80 degrees. The contrast ratio is 200:1.

    It employs an analog interface for input signal. The input terminal is equipped with two D-sub 15 pins. A stereo speaker is built in the body. It also comes with one line-input terminal as well as one head phone terminal.

    The monitor measures 467mm wide x 242mm deep x 446 mm high. It weighs 9kg.

    It is expected to be shipped in early March 1999 for 298,000 yen (US$2,600).

    In addition, the price of the FTD-XT15-A, a 15-in. TFT-LCD monitor, has been cut drastically by 80,000 yen from the current 198,000 yen. It features a USB port. The input signal is in analog format.

    The monitor is designed to display 16,770,000 colors with a maximum of 1,024 x 768 dots.
