China Detains Computer-Virus Hacker Suspect
|
January 22, 1999 (BEIJING) -- A hacker suspected of planting a computer
virus called "logical bomb" into two sets of educational software has
been detained in China, Beijing police said.
|
The man was discovered to be a former director of the Beijing Wuyou Software
Development Co., developer of the two computer educational software
programs for the A-degree national computer grade examination, police
said.
The virus, which is automatically disguised in the form of an "exe" document,
was designed to erase data on computer hard drives if the software is
operated on every 27th day after March 27, 1999.
Beijing Wuyou Software Development said it has lost more than RMB500,000
(US$59,524) because the company has had to recall all of the 16,000
software products it has sold.
