China Builds First Digital Satellite TV Joint Venture
|
February 4, 1999 (FUZHOU, China) -- Construction of China's first digital
satellite television decoding equipment joint venture commenced recently
in eastern China's Fujian Province.

The company is located in the Dongshan Economic and Technological Development
Zone.
Beijing Guanghua Cable and Satellite TV Co., Ltd. and U.S.-based General
Instrument Corp. established the enterprise at a cost of US$12.5 million.
The joint venture will produce satellite communications equipment.
General Instrument will provide production lines and technology for the
joint venture, which will have an annual production capacity of 450,000
decoding units.
The new equipment will provide access to Channel 4, a ciphered channel
offered by China Central Television (CCTV).
