| Shenzhen Residents Earn Highest Monthly Incomes in China

February 8, 1999 (BEIJING) -- People in the southern Chinese city of
Shenzhen enjoy the highest salaries among the nation's 35 major cities,
according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The latest statistics show that the per capita monthly income in Shenzhen
reached RMB1,587 (US$191) in October, and the per capita monthly disposable
income registered RMB1,570. The city's per capita monthly living expenditures
stood at RMB1,258, according to the statistics.
The city was followed by Guangzhou and Shanghai in per capita monthly
income and disposable income, respectively.
