New Year Special Features '99

  • New iMac Version to Sell for 158,000 Yen in Late January
  • January 11, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Apple Japan Inc. said it will market in late January a new version of the iMac personal computer released by parent Apple Computer Inc. at MAC WORLD.
    The price will be 158,000 yen (US$1,420). The price for the current iMac model was reduced by 50,000 yen from 178,000 yen (US$1,600) to 128,000 yen (US$1,150) on Jan. 7. Apple Japan will continue to sell the current iMac for the time being after the new version is put on sale.

    Apple Japan also announced that it would release four new models of the Power Macintosh G3 Series on Jan. 15 and two new models of the Macintosh Server G3 Series in late January.

    Prices for the two series will carry an open price tag. Apple Japan estimated that a model installed with a Power PC G3 300MHz and 64MB RAM would be between 200,000 yen and 250,000 yen (US$1,800-2,250); with 350MHz and 64MB RAM it would be priced at about 250,000 yen; with 350MHz and 128MB it would be between 300,000 yen and 350,000 yen (US$2,700-3,150); and with 400MHz and 128MB it would be around 400,000 yen (US$3,600).

    The company also said that the prices for the two new models of the Macintosh Server G3 Series would be between 400,000 yen and 450,000 yen (US$3,600-4,050) for the model installed with a Power PC G3 300MHz and 128MB RAM, and about 650,000 yen to 700,000 yen (US$5,850-6,300) for the model equipped with a 400MHz processor and 256MB RAM.
